Hey friends,
I hope you are doing great and that you had a great week.
First sorry for missing last weeks update, to be honest I slacked on Sunday and when I looked at it it was already too late.
This experience made me internalize a concept I learned in the beginning of this year. The concept I am talking about is Temporal Discounting. From what I understood it is a tendency to take a large reward at the moment in exchange of a far larger reward in the future.
I knew I had to write, and then I could play games. I felt that playing games first would be better to get my mind fresh and then write better. As you already know, I never wrote anything. I preferred the reward of getting away with writing and play games when I could have it all, the reward of sharing last week update and some solid time playing games after finishing.
With that out of the way, let’s jump to what I have been up to during this time:
Teaching my fellow Mozambicans about personal finances.
4 years ago, I got the opportunity to start working at Shopify and move to Canada.
Right before my move, a friend I am very fortunate to have in my life invited me to for lunch and shared what his experience has been after working for almost a decade in one of the largest tech companies in the world.
We talked about a lot of things but his focus was on how I should learn to manage my personal finances since my salary would have been a huge upgrade from what I was not making trying to start my own company 😂.
I also got the chance to work with some financial advisors, have capital enough to take risks and 2 years living alone on a new country to think deeply about many things.
Fast forward to today, I think all the mistakes and experiences I had helped me to create my own style of managing my finances. In retrospect, the only thing I regret was not having the chance to learn all that stuff earlier.
Over the last two weeks I have been packaging a course and resources that I can share beyond my close friends and hopefully be to the next generation of Mozambicans the person who I wish was there when I was growing up.
It has been 5 days since I started sharing publicly about this new project and the response has been overwhelmingly good. I have been getting people who got inspired by some of the ideas I share on social media and others who bought the course I am about to lunch.
I am very excited to see how this will turn out for the people I will reach and for what I will need to become in order to keep providing value and inspiring change.
What I am Reading: The beginning of Infinity
I got the recommendation to read this book while reading Naval’s blog. This is a very dense book and requires a lot of concentration. So far I have had to read the intro and the first chapter 3 times to some how understand what is going on. So far I am fascinated about how David Deutsch tried to explain how do we know. I am sure I cannot do justice to this book by trying to summarize it so if you have the chance give it a try.
Treat of the week: Visualize Value Courses
Big part of the way I build stuff nowadays has been shaped by the amazing courses created by jack butcher.
As I reflect on the early success of the project I recently started I decided to compile a thread about the order in which I think these courses should be taken for maximum results.
